The River Gambia and the fortunes of The Gambia sitting on the fringes of the Atlantic Ocean are two natural resources that have remained unexploited. Despite this natural gift, The Gambia has failed to leverage the economic benefits that could derive from these two resources. Inasmuch as the country has been tipped to be the ‘Gateway to Africa,’ it has yet to outline a deliberate strategy to become the Gateway to Africa.
As a political party, we are resolved to position The Gambia as a Gateway to Africa and equally we will leverage the opportunities presented by the River Gambia as a strategic source of economic activity and wealth creation for the country and its citizenry.
We shall revamp, one at a time, all the major ‘Wharf Towns’ into in-land Ports to facilitate trade and commercial activities along the River Gambia. We will pursue economic strategies that will resuscitate our Re-Export Trade into key economies in the sub-region leveraging a shorter nautical mile distance advantage.
In the process of these strategic initiatives, we will build a Maritime Industry and sector unparalleled in the sub-region and in the process establish River-Cruising, Marina, and high-end touristic activities in line with our strategic intent of repositioning The Gambia as a Tourism Haven in Africa.
We will create, nurture, and develop the requisite talent and competence needed to realize this aspiration of establishing a Maritime Industry and will pursue, simultaneously, the linkages between a Maritime, Tourism, and Agro-Processing industries.
